Wagga Wagga City is the regional capital of southern NSW with a population of approximately 68,000 people. The City is ideally located midway between Sydney and Melbourne and is well connected by air, rail and road network.  Wagga Wagga is an important agricultural, industrial, business, military and transport hub and one of the fastest growing inland cities in Australia.

It is an exciting time to join the team at Wagga Wagga City Council with major projects planned & underway to enhance liveability & lifestyle in the City. Major projects include:

  • Special Activation Precinct – one of only six in the State strategic industrial precincts with fast tracked planning and infrastructure investment from NSW Government to provide up to 4,000 jobs for the Region;
  • Riverina Intermodal Freight and Logistics (RiFL) Hub – a $50M cornerstone of the Special Activation Precinct building on the Inland Rail Project and public-private partnership with VISY Logistics. Linking manufacturers and produce from the Riverina Region to national and international markets;
  • Health & Knowledge Precinct – a strategically selected mixed-use precinct to facilitate growth in health services, infrastructure, training, education and research around the city’s two major hospitals;
  • Northern Growth Area – Major greenfield residential growth area including planning infrastructure, community facilities and service centres to support 20,000 new residents;
  • Riverside Redevelopment Stage 2 – activating and linking the Wagga Beach and Murrumbidgee River precinct with the City Centre;
  • Active Travel – A 56km integrated cycling and pedestrian network connecting the City for all ages and abilities; and
  • Planning for housing and infrastructure to support a future population of 100,000.

As a result of the continued growth of the City and Region, Council is currently seeking applications from experienced planning professionals for three critical roles all of which will influence the future of Wagga Wagga and the Region.

Manager City Strategy

This is a unique opportunity to lead and inspire an enthusiastic team of professionals in the development and implementation of key strategies related to land-use, economic development, recreation and community infrastructure.  We are looking for an experienced leader to head-up our City Strategy team to create an attractive, liveable and competitive City promoting sustainable growth, investment and employment.

You will support the growth of the City through partnerships with State and Federal Government, business and industry, attracting investment opportunities, and providing advice, to assist with the relocation and expansion of commerce in Wagga Wagga.

Key to your success in this role will be your ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders coupled with your ability to create a vision for, and to provide positive leadership to, your team.  You will hold relevant tertiary qualifications and will bring to the role significant demonstrated experience in either urban land-use planning and strategy, economic development or recreation strategy.  You will also possess outstanding communication skills and the ability to develop innovative, workable and effective solutions to complex problems.
