JOB DESCRIPTION

Full time Mixed Crop and Livestock farmer wanted to join a family owned and run cropping and sheep enterprise for a long- term position.

  • Salary range: $60,000 to $75,000 per year
  • Accommodation provided – 4/5-bedroom house in excellent condition, school bus to local primary and high schools.
  • Location - Popanyinning, WA

 The Business:

Our client is an enterprise located in the Upper Great Southern, west of the great southern rail line in Popanyinning which is about 2 hours from Perth, Western Australia. We crop barley, canola and oats with modern cropping plant and equipment, operate a hay enterprise for export and run a flock of mixed merinos.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operation of machinery for spreading, spraying, seeding, and harvesting, harvest and export hay production.
  • Maintenance of machinery, farm buildings, fences and other farm assets
  • Truck license preferred or willing to obtain one
  • Mechanically minded and workshop skills with basic ability to service, maintain, repair machinery and farm assets, general repairs and workshop tasks
  • Co-ordinate the cropping and livestock programs.
  • Feeding livestock to maintain healthy nutrition levels
  • Inspecting and Monitoring livestock to maintain health conditions
  • Maintaining and evaluating records of farming activities

 Qualifications & Skills:

  • A qualification and at least 2 years’ experience in crop farming including barley, canola and oats and livestock farming. At least five years relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualification
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and attention to detail, must be able to work unsupervised and within a team
  • Good communication and time management skills with the ability to accept direction and take on responsibilities while learning on the job.
  • Be flexible and able to take initiative in completing day to day tasks
  • Current driver’s license and own transport essential
  • Good general health and non-smoker
  • Safety awareness and ability to follow safety standards
