Customer Operations

Customer Operations brings together Customer Service and Operations Delivery and has been created as part of the Sydney Trains Transformation Program. Integrating the two areas will enhance collaboration and ensure that we work seamlessly to deliver memorable customer journeys each and every day, both now and into the future.

We have huge challenges ahead of us with increased patronage and evolving customer expectations. It means that we need to remain focused on the delivery of consistently excellent service and strong operational performance, while at the same time delivering major projects that create capacity across the network.

Rail Operations Control sits within the Customer Operations Branch and manages the day-to-day operations of the Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink networks. This includes train operations, signalling and track possession management within Network Control, monitoring train services and incident management with a focus on safety, reliability and customer service.

The opportunity

Sydney Trains has a newly created opportunity for a seasoned operational executive to join the Rail Operations Control Team in the role of Director Signalling Operations.

The role leads all operations signalling across the Sydney Trains network including the leadership of 500+ signalling emloyees. The role leads, manages and delivers the implementation and adoption of all future signalling technological changes across the Sydney Trains network, ensuring adequate engagement of stakeholders and staff representatives to align with relevant Enterprise Agreements.

The role also ensures that the operational performance of signal operations aligns with Safety the strategic and operational objectives of Sydney Trains. The role drives continuous improvement processes, financial accountability and transformational change/reform programs that deliver improved budget outcomes,

and enhanced communication with stakeholders.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Model, lead and drive a culture of embedding Safety Critical Communications and Operations Excellence in Signalling across the business with an emphasis on a continuous improvement lifecycle as part of a customer-centric approach to decision-making in operational performance
  • Lead the strategic planning and development of current and future signalling needs of the Sydney Trains and NSW Trains network to deliver improved network safety, capacity and performance
  • Lead, plan and manage the ‘day of operations’ functions for all Operations Signalling to deliver a safer railway through ‘Operational Excellence in Signalling and operational efficiency whilst eliminating or minimising the impact of disruptions upon customers across the the Sydney Trains and NSW Trains Network
  • Provide expert operational advice to major programs ensure Signalling consolidation programs have considered specific signalling operational needs to get the best possible outcome of major programs that will deliver tangible benefits for our customers and enhancing network safety.

About you

A strategic and inspirational leader, you have significant demonstrated experience leading a large operational workforce in an industrially sensitive and complex environment, ensuring business requirements are delivered on in a safe, reliable manner.

You have a strong ability to build credibility and trust with stakeholders at all level of the organisation, and you can negotiable and influence successfully to great outcomes, creating efficiencies and continuous improvement as you go.

You’ll be motivated by driving innovation and change initiatives, financial accountability and transformational change/reform programs that deliver improved budget outcomes, and enhanced communication with stakeholders.

Extensive experience and knowledge in the management of train operations utilising safe working rules and procedures is highly regarded.

The ideal applicant will have tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrated experience in a similar role.
