About our TEK Technical Design team

The Technical Design stream of TEK comprises subject matter experts in the disciplines of temporary works design, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and traffic engineering. We work closely with the various business units providing technical support and solutions to win and deliver safe and commercially successful projects by mitigating risk and developing innovative solutions.

About the Position

We are currently looking for an experienced Operations Manager – Technical Design to join and lead our TEK Technical Design (Technology, Engineering and Knowledge) division based in Sydney or Melbourne. Reporting into our General Manager – Civil & Building Operations TEK, you will be accountable for providing leadership in all aspects of the Technical Design Group and work with other TEK Business Units and John Holland Group to achieve business plans and project objectives, positioning John Holland as a market leader in the identification, bid, design and delivery of critical Building, Rail and Infrastructure projects, including the Development and Investment business.

Your key tasks will include (but not limited to):

  • Develop, review, implement and management of the Technical Design Strategic plans in alignment with the Enterprise-wide strategic plan(s)
  • Develop, review, implement and management of the TEK Business Plans
  • Create, develop, implement and review KPI for Technical Design function and direct reports
  • Overseeing Technical Design daily operations
  • Developing cutting edge solutions to help win work and manage technical risk with projects in delivery.
  • Oversee Technical Design related recruitment and appointments
  • Developing and managing annual Technical Design budgets
  • Engage and influence with the broader business to achieve superior results across all Infrastructure, Building and Rail related projects

To be successful, you’ll have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Engineering, Building, Construction or equivalent
  • 10+ years local and international experience specialising in design, engineering and technical management roles.
  • Management of multidisciplinary projects and project teams
