Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), is a proud partner in the delivery of major rail infrastructure projects across Melbourne, including the Metro Tunnel Project. The Metro Tunnel Project will deliver more frequent services for passengers by unlocking the City Loop and introducing new technology and infrastructure that will transform our network.

About the project:
The Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) is being delivered in three work packages, with a program level team assisting each package. The three work packages are: Rail Systems Alliance (RSA), Rail Infrastructure Alliance (RIA) and the Tunnels and Stations (T&S) Public Private Partnership.

This role will be working as part of the Program level team (Rail Projects Victoria Program), and will also work closely with various MTP and MTM teams across the project.

About the role:
The Safety Lead will be responsible for providing support to the Metro Tunnel Program. The support will include occupational health and safety, Rail Safety & Environment. The position will also be responsible managing and mentoring indirect reports.

You will be required to be available for rail Occupations (shutting the rail network down for construction activities to safely take place); Occupations can take place at night, weekends or, public holidays.

This is a full-time permanent role, based in Melbourne’s CBD. This role will also require travel to site locations across Melbourne.

Please note that a number of COVID-safe practices are being conducted on our office & site locations accordingly.

Accountabilities:
The core responsibilities of the role will include:
  • Development of Management Procedures & Work Instructions for the Metro Tunnel Project.
  • Identification and Management of Program Critical Safety Risks.
  • Drive Safety Innovation ensuring a Process Safety approach towards Zero Harm.
  • Liaise with wider MTM business and ensure a one divisional approach to seeding and adopting innovation.
  • Ensure the safety management policies, processes and training are implemented and enforced to all levels of the project.
  • Ensure Alliance Principal Contractor (PC) management plans satisfy MTM requirements.
  • Ensure Alliance PC is complying with MTM’s applicable processes & permits.
  • Manage the timely reporting and effective investigation of accidents, ensuring that lessons learnt are captured and used in the continuous improvement process.
  • Carry out regular workplace safety audit and inspections, producing reports and recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and communicate safety initiatives & toolbox talks.
About your experience:
  • Certificate IV Workplace Trainer and Assessor, or equivalent qualification
  • Para Professional qualifications in OH&S or a related discipline desirable or demonstrable professional experience.
  • Experience in co-coordinating and implementing Safety & Risk systems and procedures to ensure that legislative requirements are met. Experience in carrying out risk assessment at a project level
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of principles of Process Safety
  • Ability to apply the principles and functions of occupational hygiene, ergonomics, occupational health, rehabilitation and welfare, and accident prevention
  • Ability to follow occupational health safety and environmental procedures in the rail industry
  • Ability to manage complex situations, with solid problem solving and negotiating skills
