The Division

The Greater Sydney Division is redefining integrated transport choices to improve the lives of customers and communities, making Greater Sydney a better place to live, work and play. We have the single biggest place making opportunity at Transport in the coming years, reshaping Greater Sydney into a metropolis of three cities – Eastern Harbour City, Central River City and Western Parklands City - whilst also overseeing the Greater Sydney region as a whole.

Greater Sydney is focused on these three cities and delivering a joined up transport network and services to ensure these cities become the places that their customers and communities really want.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Director Operational Improvement to lead the identification and investigation of operational improvements to customer journeys on multi-modal, road based transport services and networks in Greater Sydney.

You will be involved in:

The successful candidate will lead integrated multi-modal transport planning for operational improvements, and have accountability for the planning and operating framework of the SCATS intelligent transport system to support customer journeys on road based transport services and networks.

You will also;

  • Lead the identification, development and investigation of potential operational improvements to road based transport networks and services that support customer journey priorities
  • Provide strategic leadership of operational planning improvements and lead structured processes for providing operational feedback and requirements into strategic, medium and long-term planning initiatives
  • Lead, motivate, encourage and inspire multi-disciplinary teams, including a geographically dispersed team of staff who provide a specialist technical transport advisory and operational service across NSW.
  • Lead the effective planning and operation of SCATS, traffic signals and associated traffic management systems ensuring that operational policies and procedures are aligned with Transport for NSW customer priorities and support agreed customer performance standards.
  • Develop plans for Smart Motorway operations and provide support for the day to day ramp metering operations of all Smart Motorways
  • Provide specialist advice to influence and facilitate the effective integration of new transport infrastructure and services into the operation of the NSW road based transport network

About You

The successful candidate will be a tertiary qualified senior leader with previous experience in a similar role within a large complex organisation. You will have demonstrated experience in transport planning with a record of achievement in resolving complex issues delivering improved customer journeys.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written will be critical, as will the ability to work with and influence a wide range of senior internal and external stakeholders.
