Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), is a proud partner in the delivery of major rail infrastructure projects across Melbourne, including the Metro Tunnel Project. The Metro Tunnel Project will deliver more frequent services for passengers by unlocking the City Loop and introducing new technology and infrastructure that will transform our network.

About the project:

The Metro Tunnel Project (MTP) is being delivered in three work packages, with a program level team assisting each package. The three work packages are: Rail Systems Alliance (RSA), Rail Infrastructure Alliance (RIA) and the Tunnels and Stations (T&S) Public Private Partnership.

This role will be working as part of the Program level team (Metro Tunnel Project), and will also work closely with various MTP and MTM teams across the project.

About the role:


The Risk & Safety Advisor will provide independent reviews and recommendations on matters relating to railway operations at risk from project construction activities (processes & systems). In this role, you will assess and report on the safety and integrity of the rail infrastructure, passenger services and the safety of rail safety workers within the assigned projects.


You will be required to be available for rail Occupations (shutting the rail network down for construction activities to safely take place); Occupations can take place at night, weekends or, public holidays.


This is a full-time permanent role, based in Melbourne’s CBD. This role will also require travel to site locations in the metropolitan area.


Please note that a number of COVID-safe practices are being conducted on our office & site locations accordingly.

Accountabilities:

  • Monitoring and assessing that projects comply with MTM’s Site Safety and Environmental Requirements for MTM staff and Third Parties.
  • Provision of independent advice to the Safety, Environmental, Risk & Quality (SERQ) Systems Manager regarding adequacy and efficiency of SERQ Systems Program & compliance.
  • Responsible for the creating, coordinating and conducting of Audits, Inspections, Incident Reporting, Actions and NCRs entered into INX in the MTP Portfolio.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting on SERQ interface management between the RPVP SERQ management system and RTO Management systems.
  • Provide guidance for packages adherence & assurance to MTM Safety Management System (risk control / potential impact on operational safety)
  • Manage and coordinate Audits / Inspections in consultation with the SERQ Systems Manager
  • Manage and coordinate Reports and recording of findings

About your experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in risk management, ideally in construction or engineering.
  • Experience in Rail Construction projects will be highly considered.
  • Knowledge of Rail Safety National Legislation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel knowledge and ability.
  • Solid reporting & analytical skills.
  • Experience providing service across multiple business areas in a large organisation.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate key outcomes.
