About The Role

One Rail Australia is seeking the expertise of an energetic, hands-on and practical Work Health and Safety Coordinator to establish procedures and implement WHS programs including monitoring and reviewing theaw procedures and programs for effectiveness.

The successful candidate will have a strong ability to coach and engender behavioural change in the provision of a safe and healthy working environment for all ORA employees along with a strong process control focus to ensure ongoing WHS program effectiveness. Bringing in depth experience across either Rail, Mining or Energy sectors with extensive heavy industry experience this role will also be supporting WHS teams over multi-site and multi-jurisdictional responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strong emotional intelligence - highly perceptive as to individual behaviour and reasons behind this with associated ability to coach on adjusting / improving behaviours - setting standards, working at the right level, effective powers of observation.
  • Strong coaching and Influencing skills with senior operational leaders in the business as well as developing WHS Team colleagues. Executes work in a planned fashion
  • Integrates systems and processes relative to WHS Management that satisfy the organisation's legislative obligations throughout Australia and reflect industry best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of the WHS legislation and best practice, ensuring that management are aware of their OHS responsibilities. Can analyse safety problems and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain records of all injuries and illnesses occurring at the workplace in accordance with legislative requirements and provide statistical summaries of these records.
  • Administers, Inspects, monitors and evaluates the business safety programs for value and effectiveness.
  • Participate in and coaches on investigations of site events utilising both ICAM and root cause analysis.
  • Survey, evaluate, investigate and gather information that will address inadequacies concerning safety, health and environmental matters.
  • Research skills in the development of safety polices relating to a specific site, or at a corporate level.
  • Accept assignments within the safety departments and perform specific duties as may be required.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, monitoring and analysis of work areas.
  • Participates in varying aspects of specific Rail Safety work when and as required.
  • Demonstrable experience with design, development of in-house Material Risk Programs across heavy industry
  • Prepare and maintain reports and documentation concerning the aspects of Work, Health and Safety (WHS) management.
  • Develops operational line capability to achieve best WHS practices through coaching in all aspects of health and safety Leadership (i.e., T5, JHA, PEEPO, RCA).
  • Work in unison with the HR department to ensure best outcomes for injury management and return to work processes.
  • Deliver specific WHS awareness sessions ensuring communication and consultation requirements are met.


To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years' relevant experience working in Rail, Mining, or other relevant high risk heavy industry.
  • The ability to prepare comprehensive analytical reports.
  • Sound understanding of WHS legislation, principals and procedures.
  • Desirable qualifications; Graduate Diploma OHS.
