About the Role:

One Rail Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Workshop Manager with advanced rollingstock technical knowledge to join the team based in Dry Creek. The Workshop Manager will lead the rolling stock maintenance supervisors and their teams for milestone achievements in Safety, Asset management, Cost and Innovation enabling the successful execution of maintenance of rolling stock, locomotives and facilities to operate on ORA owned and third-party rail networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prioritise to ensure that safety is the forefront of decision making on all rolling stock activities.
  • Promote a culture of zero injuries by ensuring all maintenance staff operate safely and comply with Company policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to maintenance activities throughout the operating asset lifecycle including: planning, maintenance, change management and decommissioning of rolling stock, locomotives and facilities.
  • Support safe, successful and compliant maintenance delivery on time, on budget, to specified scope and quality of outcome, including the collection and preparation of maintenance compliance information for monthly reporting in order to meet established maintenance management methodology.
  • Develop and foster a culture of compliance and continuous improvement, providing advice and bringing technical rigour and best practice to the rolling stock discipline area.
  • Ensure compliance for the implementation and ongoing training and safety requirements for staff working on site.
  • Resource and communicate the rolling stock maintenance plan to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken safely and hazards are continuously identified and addressed to provide a safe working environment.
  • Ensure the department complies ONRSR requirements as directed, and to ensure compliance with the Rail Safety Management System.
  • Develop and implement procedures for safe working practices, ensuring compliance by all maintenance staff.
  • Ensure all maintenance staff carry out their duties effectively.
  • Manage the investigation of all workshop related incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented to maintain safety and minimise both financial and customer/operational impact.
  • Manage facilities maintenance services and equipment calibration.
  • Ensure that all business activities and employees within the position's area of control comply with all legislative/statutory obligations, company policies, standards and procedures.


To be successful you must possess/have experience in:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering and/or Business.
  • Sound understanding of Rollingstock and Locomotive Engineering with strong leadership experience in the implementation of rollingstock maintenance in operations.
  • Experience in maintenance management including technical knowledge of locomotives and defect rectification requirements, rollingstock technical fault-finding skills, managing wheel conditions and scheduling experience.
  • Highly developed analytical skills with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High degree of computer literacy including the use of Microsoft software.
  • A current unrestricted motor vehicle drivers' licence.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to lead by example.
  • Demonstrated experience in Rail Safety National Law and Act (desirable).
