About The Role:

One Rail Australia is seeking the expertise of an energetic, hands-on and practical Work Health and Safety Coordinator to establish procedures and implement programs to provide a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel.

The WHS Coordinator will have in depth experience across Rail, Mining or Energy sectors with extensive heavy industry experience supporting WHS teams over multi-site and multi-jurisdictional responsibilities. To be successful in this challenging and varied role; the successful candidate will monitor and review procedures and programs for effectiveness as well as being self-motivated and be willing to put in the effort needed to complete work and achieve desired results in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse safety problems and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain records of all injuries and illnesses occurring at the workplace in accordance with legislative requirements and provide statistical summaries of these records.
  • Administer, Inspect, monitor and evaluate the business safety programs for value and effectiveness.
  • Participate in investigations of site events utilising root cause analysis.
  • Survey, evaluate, investigate and gather information that will address inadequacies concerning safety, health and environmental matters.
  • Research and assist in the development of safety polices relating to a specific site, or at a corporate level.
  • Accept assignments within the safety departments and perform specific duties as may be required.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules and regulations including government regulations, standards and policies.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, monitoring and analysis of work areas.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and documentation concerning the aspects of Work, Health and Safety (WHS) management.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety policies and procedures to enable the performance of assigned duties in a safe manner.
  • Coach and mentor operation functions to achieve best WHS practices.
  • Work in unison with the HR department to ensure best outcomes for injury management and return to work processes.
  • Deliver specific WHS awareness sessions ensuring communication and consultation requirements are met.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Relevant experience working in heavy industry, construction or manufacturing.
  • A minimum of Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Sound understanding of WHS legislation, principals and procedures.
