About us:

The Advanced Train Management System (ATMS) provides an innovative train control solution that uses advanced train management technology to improve safety, reduce operational and maintenance costs, and improve rail freight network efficiencies.

ATMS is being updated for defect resolution and enhancement to enable deployment to new rail corridors. Major capability upgrades are being planned for future deployments.

The Train Control and Display (TC&D) subsystem and Location Determination System (LDS) are elements within ATMS that use on-board train processing, navigation & control, and advanced digital communications to provide intelligent control of trains on a rail system.

Your responsibilities will include:

The Trainborne Software Lead is responsible for all train-based software development activities and will directly contribute to the vision, design & implementation of real-time safety critical software developed in Java and C/C++, ensuring work is completed in line with technical, cost, and schedule constraints. This role will provide guidance and direction to Trainborne software engineers and be part of the management team steering Trainborne system development.

Day to day tasks include:
  • Leading engineering teams in the design & delivery of real-time safety critical software developed in Java and C/C++
  • Leading the transition of TC&D and LDS software development from our US-based teams to Australia
  • Enhancement scoping, design, and implementation; defect analysis and remediation
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable plans and standards
  • Ensuring all work is delivered in accordance with allocated requirements
  • Assisting the ATMS Software Lead to track applicable Software Engineering metrics
  • Providing support as required to the operation and maintenance of the ATMS.

About you:

  • Extensive experience leading a software engineering team
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Substantial experience running teams across multiple locations
  • Excellent understanding of the SDLC within an evolutionary environment
  • Advanced use of IDEs such as Eclipse for code and unit test
  • Sound Java and C++ skills
  • Significant experience with Linux based systems
  • Significant experience with distributed source code management (i.e. Git or SVN)

Special Requirements:

Applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and hold a current or re-instatable NV1 Defence Security Clearance.
