About the Role:

The Classic Fleet Engineering team provide technical engineering support to the Alstom Maintenance team and V/Line. This role is ideal for an experienced Mechanical Engineer, with highly developed communication skills. This position requires a hands-on engineer who is looking for a dynamic and varied role within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

The Fleet Mechanical Engineer works across all mechanical systems on the V/Line Classic Fleet. This includes braking & door systems, diesel engines as well as staff and customer amenities. This position suits an engineer with existing experience in rail or equivalent industry.

The Fleet Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading multidisciplinary safety and reliability investigations to identify root cause, the development of operating standards, the provision of targeted engineering support to the maintenance team, assistance to the Procurement team to identify and address component obsolescence and the development of maintenance standards and instructions.

They propose and develop safe, compliant, practical, cost effective Engineering solutions.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a rail maintenance or similar environment
  • Knowledge and experience in the optimum performance of diesel engines and common fault causes is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in root cause identification of complex engineering problems
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to target your message to your audience using a variety of appropriate mediums
  • An understanding of the principles of asset management and the development of preventative maintenance regimes
  • Experience in the development of maintenance plans and instructions
  • Ability to provide on-the-spot problem analysis and engineering advise to management and technical personal
  • A desire to continuously improve yourself and the environment around you
