About The Role

As a Mentor Driver you are accountable for managing the training and mentoring of drivers within the Coal Business of Pacific National. The focus will be on managing the training as required, with a strong emphasis on culture change, safe working improvements and ensuring productive workplace practices.

In this role you will assist the Driver Trainer whilst you learn and develop yourself. While undertaking the role of a Mentor Driver, the successful candidate will be provided with developmental based training and support with the intention of progressing to the role of a Driver Trainer once the required level of competency had been achieved. The successful candidate would need to demonstrate commitment of progressing to the role of a Driver Trainer at Port Kembla. The role has prime responsibilities with respect to ensuring all training is carried out in accordance with SH&E best practices, ensuring achievement in compliance with legislative requirements, with a priority focus on continuous improvement and risk reduction.

Other Key Responsibilities Include
  • Qualified and undertaking driver accountabilities on mainline operations, which will include shunt.
  • Delivery of structured training programs for Trainee Drivers and other learners.
  • Use of IT systems to assist in the delivery and capture of training programs.
  • Deliver specific structured mentoring to Train Crew where the need for such mentoring has been identified.
  • Driving continuous improvement in safety performance and ensuring alignment of the workforce with Pacific National’s values.
  • Ensuring the provision of high-quality train services to meet Pacific National train management standards through the rail corridor.
  • On-going commitment to company values of safety, integrity, accountability and teamwork.
  • Data logger analysis and reporting to ensure conformance to train handling expectations.
About You

The ideal candidate will be a qualified driver on mainline operations and will also possess the following skills, attributes, and experience:
  • Proven record of safety, motivation, and performance with respect to managing and leading work teams and implementation of cultural change/ improvement initiatives.
  • Sound understanding of business and regulatory requirements with respect to rail safety accreditation.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of SHE management systems and demonstrated experience managing the implementation of effective SHE initiatives.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will be highly regarded but is not essential
  • Computer literacy with the MS Office suite.
