Based in Rockhampton, our client possesses 35 years of industry experience servicing the civil construction, rail maintenance, fleet equipment and more. This locally owned and operated company has a newly created position as a Safety Advisor to join their team in an temp to perm opportunity.

As the Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for overseeing and being accountable for the effectiveness, monitoring and review of the current Safety Management System, and delivery of key improvements in risk reduction for the business. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will coordinate and make decisions while providing oversight and management of the various projects undertaken, and to ensure that these activities conform to the intent of the Safety Management System

Key responsibilities

  • Liaise as appropriate with clients, subcontractors, supervisors and other persons.
  • Provide health, safety and environment management services for Schwarz Excavations in line with current procedures and guidelines.
  • In conjunction with the client Site Manager and Safety team, coordinate programs to improve overall performance and safety on site.
  • Ensure that services provided comply with relevant legislative requirements and support a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ensure that services provided are of a high standard and comply with client quality management system requirements.
  • Provide technical safety services including accident and incident investigations; workplace health and safety audits; training; risk assessments; and rehabilitation case management where required.
  • Ensure vehicles and safety equipment is checked, serviced and maintained in good working condition.
  • Respond to urgent tasks within the company, acting promptly to address and fix client concerns.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients.
  • Acquire and maintain the skills and knowledge relating to the Safety Advisor role.

Qualifications/skills

  • Diploma of Work Health and Safety (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in workplace health and safety functions within a complex and diverse organisation
  • Background in civil construction (mandatory)
  • Knowledge or working history within rail, fleet, or haulage industries (highly regarded)
  • Ability to conduct workplace audits, inspections, toolbox talks
