The Opportunity

The Cook Facility is managed by the Terminal Operations Manager Port Augusta SA. This facility is a resting station for our Locomotive Drivers and must be maintained to the required standards to meet expectations.

As a Caretaker you will work as part of a small group of Caretakers and Cleaners, overseeing the day to day maintenance of the facility. Cleaning staff will advise the Caretakers of any issues or faults. Caretakers will be expected to attend to any routine faults, whilst more complex faults can be referred to the Terminal Manager Port Augusta.

When on shift you will live onsite, within a remote location, with company provided accommodation, comprising of a single quarters unit, bedroom, ensuite and TV, utilising a shared kitchen, utility expenses are paid for by PN, food and condiments are not provided and are the responsibility of the employee.

Train travel to and from site can be provided on PN freights train service from Port Augusta.

Working requirements will entail early morning and afternoon shifts, with an average shift length of 8 hours.

The permanent roster cycle is 14 days on Thursday To Wednesday and 7 days off Thursday to Wednesday you may be required to cover this pattern for an entire block an entire block or shorter periods depending on the coverage required.

Minimum of 1 week notice will be provided to advise shift coverage is required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and operating the buildings fuel, water and power supply onsite;
  • Liaising with specialist trades people for major issues;
  • Cleaning rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and common areas within the town for our personnel; and
  • Arranging for cleaning materials and goods required for the daily operation of the township

About You

Skills and attributes required for this role:

  • Have experience in the maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical plant equipment
  • Accustomed to adhering to OHS and onsite safety requirements
  • Exposure to working within remote locations under limited supervision
  • You must hold a current drivers license
  • You must have a forklift license
  • Have an understanding of diesel operated generators is an advantage
  • Must be willing to assist with cleaning duties when required
  • A trade background would suit this position however not essential
  • Be customer focused and take pride in their work
