About the job


We are seeking a self-driven commercial lawyer (8+ PQE) to join a rail maintenance and construction company for 6-12 months on a part-time basis (three days per week) as the Sole Legal Counsel. This role can be based in the office or remotely.


This is a broad in-house legal role covering all areas of law including:

  • contract review and negotiation with service and supply clients
  • working on financing contracts
  • board meeting and company secretarial work
  • employee relations negotiations
  • general insurance, leasing issues, PPSA advice, compliance, safety and environmental matters


Successful applicants will have:

  • A right to work and reside in Australia
  • Qualified to practice in Australia – unrestricted
  • A minimum of 8 years' post-qualification experience, ideally within a top tier law firm and a leading financial institution, rail company or corporate (directly, or as a secondee)
  • Broad in-house legal experience ideally within the transport, resources or energy sector (preferred)
  • Have a willingness to engage with Peerpoint via an Independent Legal Practice or casual employment
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience in a common law jurisdiction is preferred
  • Self-starter with a commitment to building a career as a consultant and a drive to achieve at a high level whilst working as a consultant
  • Adept at leading or working within complex multi-functional, multi-national project environments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels, building strong relationships internally and externally
  • Client service-focused, with exemplary client service ethic and commitment
  • Strong commercial/business acumen
  • Resilient, adaptable, autonomous and highly credible
  • Advanced organisational skills and diplomacy
