We are seeking an experienced procurement leader on a permanent full-time basis to deliver strategic procurement and supply chain fit for purpose outcomes that optimise Aurizon's supply base and improve the overall value proposition.

This position is in our Above Rail Procurement team managing our Wagon contracts and suppliers with an approximate spend of 50 million. As an integral member of the team, you’ll be required to develop fleet solutions for our customers in an engaging and collaborative way, helping to improve the whole asset performance and enabling future success for our Bulk and Coal business. You’ll have a small team to lead, so we are seeking someone who is passionate about supporting, coaching and developing their team, setting them up for success.

About the role:

  • Accountable for developing and implementing the wagon category strategy and management plan
  • Responsible for providing end-to-end source to contract expertise, as well as delivering commercial contract and supplier performance management outcomes
  • Accountable for the supplier relationship and contract management for Tier 1/2 suppliers
  • Ability to develop suppliers nationally and globally to generate competitive advantage
  • Partner with the organisation to understand objectives and to identify, mitigate and manage risks associated with procurement and supply chain activities
  • Identify cost savings and produce tangible procurement, contract management and aggregation benefits
  • Ensure understanding of and adherence to relevant legislation (Competition and Consumer Act, ACCC etc.), legal principles and corporate policies/procedures
  • Demonstrated delivery of continuous improvement initiatives utilising highly developed commercial and business acumen
  • Besides achieving the strategic goals of the Category, this role will coach, mentor and influence team members and will support the Manager of the Portfolio to achieve both strategic and operational goals

About you: 

  • 5+ years commercial category management experience in heavy industry (Mandatory)
  • Bachelor of Business or another related field (Mandatory) and a nationally recognised professional commercial accreditation (e.g. CIPS, CA, CPA, CFA, Preferred)
  • Experience working in a large, complex organization (i.e. ability to operate independently and under pressure, to perform multiple concurrent tasks and responsibilities, and to deal with changing priorities, while maintaining personal effectiveness)
  • People leadership and performance management skills optimising the team and individuals' performance in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to think and act strategically, articulate complex matters succinctly to influence, and drive decision making and articulate a business case for change, and to influence relevant stakeholders to deliver that sustainably
  • High level communication, negotiation and consultation skills that build and sustain productive relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in analytical thinking and problem solving to define and review analysis of data sets required to measure benefits and performance
