This large-scale project will benefit train users, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by improving safety, reducing congestion and enabling more frequent train services

As the Level Crossing Removal Project continues to deliver a safer and more efficient train network, the Metro team involved in this large-scale project is expanding to respond to current and future works. The experience gained in this exciting, multi-disciplinary environment will be valuable to building your career in rail construction.


Metro Trains Melboure, alliance partner of the North West Program Alliance is currently seeking a experienced Cost Controller to support current and future projects as part of the Level Crossing Removal Program (LXRP).

Working as part of the wider commercial project team, the Cost Controller is responsible for the provision of project accounting, cost control, and cost administration support to the projects. This will include undertaking monthly project finance reports, project cash flow reports and support of project cost code managers.

This opportunity is offered on a full time permanent basis. Based from our new alliance oofices in Lonsdale St CBD we support flexible working arrangments which include a mixture of office based, working from home and site based working as and when required.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Support the financial management of Alliance projects
  • Support Cost Code mangers to forecast monthly project expenditure, manage cost commitments, and estimates at completion
  • Prepare the monthly financial cost report/cash flows for Project Management, Metro Corporate and Alliance reporting
  • Prepare cost accruals and work closely with Project Officers, Procurement Officers and Contracts Administrators
  • Prepare monthly Claim to Client
  • Manage, analyse and review project costs, variances and phasing
  • Support Alliance with forecasting and Cost Control activities
  • Collation of benchmarking and unit rates
  • Manage, analyse and review project costs and progress
  • Commercial Risk and Opportunity analysis and monthly review
  • Assist with conducting tender evaluation and tender selection recommendations
  • Liaison with construction and engineering on possible scope changes and other issues which impact on cost
  • Set up and manage project budgets and forecasting sheets

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or Accounting or equivalent is desirable
  • Experience in project accounting/management accounting is desirable
  • Familiar with project management / control including all facets associated with planning, costing, contracts is desirable
  • Familiar with current scheduling cost control and Project Management techniques
  • Experience in the application of the various project administration and management software packages
  • Experience with financial contract administrative tasks is desirable
  • Experience in cost control and contract administration
  • Experience in the application of the various Microsoft software packages
  • Experience and knowledge of a rail operating environment advantageous
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work effectively, using a high level of diplomacy and sensitivity
  • Ability to schedule work priorities to ensure deadlines are strictly adhered to
