We have an immediate requirement for a Senior Electrical Design / Power Engineer to join our office in Morningside on a permanent basis.

You will be required to lead and complete all external engineering projects, provide guidance and direction to other electrical design engineers, and provide technical support to field-based staff.

This is a role for an engineering professional with a passion for growing our engineering capability, and client base in the region.

Reporting to the General Manager you will be responsible for carrying out a range of activities including but not limited to; 

Main responsibilities:

  • FEED and Detailed Design (Load Lists, SLD’s, Schematics, Layouts, G.A.’s, BOM’s etc.
  • Development of detailed design drawings, technical specifications, scopes of works, instructions, and other documents to the required standards for greenfield and brownfield projects such as;
  • Substation Design
  • Protection Design
  • AC/DC Switchgear
  • Switchyard
  • Substation Building and Auxiliaries
  • Battery/ Battery Charger/UPS
  • Technical study and model ownership of ETAP, Power Cad, SKM Power Tools and Digsilent Power Factory including:
  • GPS Study
  • Protection Coordination
  • Load Flow
  • Short Circuit
  • Harmonic & Flicker
  • Motor Starting
  • Transient Stability
  • Arc Flash
  • Lightning Protection and Insulation Coordination
  • Earthing Design
  • Step and Touch Potential
  • EPR
  • Earth Grid Design
  • Portable Earthing
  • Relay configuration and protection setting calculations
  • Protection and metering scheme design and upgrades
  • Technical / Economic Feasibility studies
  • Technical support for estimating and RFT development
  • Scope of work and project framing
  • Asset Lifecycle Engineering and Analysis
  • Other tasks as assigned by the General Manager

Experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power)
  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience.
  • Member of Engineers Australia and Chartered Status (CPEng) – RPEQ preferable.
  • Ability to complete, review and approve detailed project designs with external consultants/clients, building sustainable relationships.
  • Proven experience in delivering complete turnkey design solutions on projects with values up to $5mil.
  • Detailed knowledge of design quality assurance processes.
  • Experienced with generating design scopes, specifications and strong project management fundamentals.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant standards, legislation, policies and procedures applicable to designs and studies.
  • Experience in the functional electrical design areas of HV substations, control, automation, protection and communications systems.
  • Proficient with DigSilent, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS modelling software’s.
  • Proficiency with PSSE/PSCAD viewed favourably.
  • Experienced with generating design scopes and project estimating.
  • Supervision, direction, coaching and mentoring of Engineers/Junior Engineers.
  • Ability to develop detailed, professional and accurate designs, documents and reports.
  • Highly adept at writing detailed technical reports and formulating concise technical arguments.
