We are looking for a dynamic, proactive leader with extensive experience in developing internal and external narrative for a large brand. To be successful in this role, you will thrive in a complex and sometimes intense environment, be fantastic at networking and willing to work with a diverse and complex range of stakeholders. You will need to have well-developed leadership skills, an eye for detail, exceptional writing skills and an ability to remain calm under pressure juggling multiple projects and tight deadlines.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Corporate and Government affairs, the Manager Strategic Communications will play a key role in positioning Queensland Rail as a modern, world-class and customer-focused rail service. 

This role is responsible for the Strategic Communications team and leads the development and implementation of Queensland Rail’s corporate lines of business narrative and supports frameworks to increase awareness both internally and externally.

Using storytelling and working closely with the other managers within the Corporate and Government Affairs directorate, this role builds the brand and reputation of the organisation, in support of our vision of connecting communities through a modern, world-class rail service.

As the Manager Strategic Communications, you will:

  • Participate as a member of the leadership team to provide leadership on strategy and planning in a dynamic and integrated passenger and rail infrastructure environment through: effective corporate communication strategy formulation; business partner and stakeholder engagement; financial and commercial excellence; and people leadership.
  • Together with the Senior Manager Corporate and Government Affairs successfully deliver Queensland Rail's Corporate and Government Affairs Business Plan, as demonstrated through meeting performance measures and timelines, safety responsibilities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of Queensland Rail's internal communication program to support all major projects and change, including: developing strategies that establish objectives and measures linked back to organisational KPIs; targeting communication tactics to specific audience preferences; and using communication methods that are cost-efficient and innovative to bridge the geographical divide.
  • Develop and govern internal communication frameworks and regularly monitor the effectiveness of internal communication channels and strategic approaches.
  • Effectively work with stakeholders to lead the development of the Corporate Narrative and assist with the implementation of the Brand Strategy for Queensland Rail
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Queensland Rail's executive leaders and other internal and external stakeholders through timely, strategic and valued advice to ensure a strong internal and external brand is established and employee engagement is maintained in an environment of organisational change.
  • Develop leaders at all levels in communication competence through the design and provision of training and coaching; tools; education and support.

To be considered for this role you will need:

  • High level of skill in providing strategic leadership and advice to influence strategies and leverage communication channels to deliver high levels of employee engagement within a complex commercial and customer orientated environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary frameworks and methodologies to develop effective internal change and communication strategies that facilitate a strong internal brand.High level of oral and written communication skills with particular focus on writing and/or editing complex business information for diverse audiences.High level and well-developed people management skills with a proven ability to develop and manage high-performing teams.High level of influencing, interpersonal, consultation, relationship building and negotiation skills that build and sustain productive relationships and partnerships.
  • High level of conceptual thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills and implementing process improvement in a complex business environment.
  • High level of skill to develop a stimulating work environment that motivates employees to align with the future vision of the Queensland Rail business and collectively work to achieve desired results.
