About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Pontoon Caretaker to join the team on a lifestyle roster (7 days on/7 days off). This role is primarily responsible for assisting the Pontoon Manager in the presentation and cleanliness of the pontoons and auxiliary vessels, conducting rescue and lookout duties, and assisting in day-to-day pontoon operations ensuring the best possible facilities for our day and overnight guests (i.e. Reefsleep experience setup and pack down). This role will ideally suit a mechanically minded individual with general aptitude for maintenance and engineering, preferably with experience working on diesel engines (i.e. CAT) and with a trade-qualified background.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to;

  • Assisting the Pontoon Manager to maintain presentation of the Pontoons and Auxiliary vessel;
  • Customer service and product delivery;
  • Start-up and shut-down of generators and engines;
  • Comply with Cruise Whitsundays Safety Management Systems;
  • Be proactive with continuous improvement and efficiency;
  • Train new crew on board the pontoon in all in water practices and pontoon/ancillary vessels;
  • Oversee the daily pontoon tasks and supervision of pontoon employees;
  • Ensuring maintenance is undertaken on board and defects are recorded; and
  • Rescue and lookout duties for guests.


About You

You will be a team player with a demonstrated positive "can-do" attitude, be comfortable living and working on water for extended periods of time (7/7 roster), have previous deckhand experience, a general aptitude for maintenance and engineering, and ability to deliver professional customer service. Experience working on diesel engines (i.e. CAT) and a trade background will be highly regarded.6DB69BE79C

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Deckhand position with extensive Marine Tourism experience
  • Coxswain, Open (essential), Master V and MED II (advantageous)
  • Mechanical Engineering or Diesel Fitting experience highly regarded
  • Possess a Radio Operator’s Licence, Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate and First Aid Certificate, with AED and O2
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, introduce practical safety measures and conduct safety drills
  • Ability to comprehend inclement weather procedures (i.e. Cyclones) and understand weather forecasts;
  • Strong time management, organisational skills and high attention to detail;
  • Ability to work autonomously with vessel handling experience as well as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills with customer service resolution skills
  • Flexibility to spend extended period of living on the pontoon as well as the ability to work weekend
