JOB DESCRIPTION

We are currently looking for an experienced Network Planning Analyst who will support the analytical and modelling functions of MTM's Rail Operations Modelling and Analytics team .This position is responsible for contributing to the development and maintenance of rail operations models and analytical tools to support the rigorous and reliable planning of current and future services and operations. This position is a 3 year max term contract.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the development of the design of strategic service plans (timetables) aligned with operational strategy, capacity constraints and resource levels.
  • Provide and contribute to analytical and quantitative integration of expert advice from multi-disciplinary team.
  • Assist with the development and documentation of mathematical and statistical methods and decision support tools with consideration to demand modelling and operational simulation and scenario testing.
  • Develop timetable concepts to demonstrate operational requirements and meet customer outcomes.
  • Interrogate operational and patronage data to understand key issues on the network
  • Use rail modelling tools such as RailSys to contribute to build and quality assurance of rail network infrastructure and rolling stock models.
  • Contribute to the validation of RailSys models including documentation and quality assurance of process, identification and resolution of issues and recommendations on validity of model outputs.
  • Scenario test various rail infrastructure enhancements and alternative operating plans.
  • Contribute to broad rail reliability models to inform operational strategy and service contract negotiations.
  • Provide analytics and modelling functions to provide quantitative analysis to enable robust evaluations of network changes.

In order to be successful you will need to possess the following;

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in an area such as Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology or equivalent is desirable
  • Experience in drawing inferences from data desirable
  • Ability to present results in a clear and comprehensible manner.
  • Sound conceptual and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and understand important issues and provide sound advice on complex issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of computer-based systems / tools in a research environment, in particular, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, SQL Server and / or programming languages.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff (verbal and written)
  • Ability to identify and analyse risks, and make corrective actions
