We have a fantastic position for a Project Engineer – DTRS who will be looking after and providing expert advice for all the technical aspects of the DTRS works program in conjunction with the DTRS Program Manager and the DTRS Lead Engineer.

You will be supporting the Lead Engineer by undertaking specific elements or work packages undertaken by the State, Metro Trains (as the franchisee) or Third Parties (within the Metro Trains lease), ensuring they are designed, reviewed and delivered in compliance with the technical standards of Metro Trains and the functional operating requirements of the business.


Your responsibilities will include;

  • Reviewing and verifying vendor supplied scope and technical documents against the existing system Functional and Performance Specifications and requirements to ensure compliance and completeness
  • Recommend the proposed approach to the technical works in context of the greater rail and operational environment to ensure safety, efficiency and stability of the underlying live operational telecommunications system
  • Identifying and updating technical risk factors and mitigation strategies and treatment plans
  • Providing technical artefacts to relevant authorities within guidelines in order to progress the works
  • Ensuring all planned hardware and software upgrades, configurations and interdependencies and roadmaps are understood and certified including incremental step changes to achieve end finals target technical states
  • Ensuring subsystem changes are fully defined, implemented and tested in order to not introduce errors, deficiencies or bugs into the live production system

About You

In order to be successful you will possess the following;

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (engineering preferred)
  • Previous experience with Telecommunication CORE sub-system network element builds and/or upgrades
  • Experience with mobile RAN and BTS systems and configurations, mobile coverage plots and RF planning tools.
  • Previous experience with 2G and 3G mobile telecommunication systems within a railway environment including implementation challenges and constraints
