About the Project

The Monash Freeway is in Melbourne’s fast growing south east and outer south-east region and the $761M design and construct project will expand the Monash from eight to 10 lanes slashing nearly ten minutes off the morning peak hour commute and better connect the Monash to Eastlink.

Works include the addition of 36 kilometres of new lanes to the Monash Freeway, upgrading the Beaconsfield interchange with new freeway ramps, the extension and widening of O’Shea Road and the roll out of the Freeway Lane Management System to better manage traffic flows.

Construction commenced in 2020 and is due to be completed in 2022.

Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from experienced Quantity Surveyors. Within this scope of work, you will assist in the minimisation of cost and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality.

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be accountable for:

  • Conduct preliminary commercial evaluation of tenders from subcontractors and ensure financial, commercial and contractual requirements are adhered to.
  • Participate in scope of works planning, ensuring that scope gaps are minimised, cost efficiencies are maximised and subcontractor capabilities are considered
  • Assist with Project procurement and prepare Sub-Contract and Supply Agreements
  • Ensure activities comply with Government Acts, statutory regulations and ethical standards.
  • Undertake cost planning, cost analysis, site measurements for progress payments and variations which occur on site
  • Report on job progress and cost control to the Project Manager
  • Check and prepare for authorisation, payments to subcontractors and major suppliers
  • Liaise with and provide input to purchasing and site procurement requirements
  • Liaise with Project Managers and designers for cost benefit analysis of designs options.
  • Assist dispute resolution processes as required
  • Ensure cost forecasting for allocated subcontracts and cost codes are accurately maintained and cost issues are appropriately escalated upon identification

Requirements for this role are:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commerce, Construction Management or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Contracts Administration or similar role
  • Substantial experience in a similar position in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Contractor is preferred
  • Excellent commercial awareness
  • Exposure to Claims/ Variations
  • Confidence and ability to negotiate, influence and develop relationships at all levels
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Intermediate to advanced competency in MS Office Suite
