Siemens Mobility has two exciting opportunities for experienced Project Managers to join our team in Melbourne. The Project Manager develops and manages customer projects, according to defined Project Management (PM) standards and customer requirements, and with responsibility for economic results.

Main stakeholders:

Sales, Commercial, Customer, Vendors, Bid / Project Engineers, Procurement, Project Managers, Product Managers, Siemens HQ proposal team, Siemens factory proposal teams

Areas of Responsibility


  • Develops a thorough understanding of the project scope and targets.
  • Consults with customers on the technical solutions.
  • Ensures that the requirements are captured and distributed to the project team and engineering resources
  • Assigns work packages to the project team and engineering resources (in the absence of an assigned System Manager in the project)
Communication and Stakeholders
  • Maintains & manages communication to customers, outside contractors & other stakeholders.
  • Manages project interfaces externally and internally
  • Coordinates and Interacts with all external and internal stakeholders (e.g. customer, suppliers, local/overseas project management, engineering and general management)
  • Prepares, presents and maintains project reporting to external and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinates overall planning of the project.
  • Ensures milestone and budget adherence, and initiates actions to minimize non-conformance cost.
  • Plans, schedules and monitors Project Management and Engineering tasks within remit of assigned projects
  • Coordinates deliverables between delivery teams to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Manages and coordinates all temporarily assigned project staff.
  • Leads the development and negotiation of project variations orders
  • Manages assigned projects to budget, quality and schedule
  • Ensures efficient risk and contract/ claim management throughout the project to minimize/ mitigate the risk exposure of the project
  • Leads the development and negotiation of project variations orders
  • Ensures regular communication and project status reporting to the local management
  • Adheres to PM standards and Business Conduct Guidelines (e.g. Tax regulations, Export Control, EHS).
Skills & Experience
  • Degree/Equivalent in Electrical, Control System, Software or Mechanical Engineering
  • At least five years professional engineering experience.
  • Leadership experience of at least five years; managing a PM core team of 6 team members.
  • Experience in railway industry is preferable– ideally within the Rail Industry including Signalling and Train Control deliverables or other complex multidisciplinary system projects.
  • Experience in medium to large project environments covering requirements analysis and clarification, design, implementation, test, and commissioning.
  • A predisposition for leadership role is required, previous experience is desirable but not essential. Training to acquire the required skills will be provided.
  • Experience working in a multicultural and diverse team environment preferable
  • Ability to observe the customer's environment and propose suitable enhancements and to the systems.
  • Ability to develop a Customer Value Proposition that provides a positive experience for customers.
  • Ability to communicate and engage internal Siemens resources to deliver a superior customer experience.
  • KPI's - Adherence to Siemens Project Management guidelines incl, reporting and delivery of the project to agreed Budget, Time-line and quality.
