Our Media and Government Relations Team is at the forefront of highlighting the achievements of Sydney Trains and our people, while strengthening our relationships in the community. 

The team is responsible for providing accurate and timely information to media organisations across the state and the nation. Team members also engage and correspond with various government and department stakeholders, while working in close collaboration with Transport for NSW. 

The opportunity

Right now, we have an exciting opportunity to join a fun but hardworking Media and Government Relations Team. We are seeking a collaborative, highly experienced media professional to create and implement our proactive media events strategy and manage large scale media projects.

What you will be involved in:

  • Managing and driving Sydney Trains’ proactive external communications strategy, with a focus on media projects and events

  • Identifying story opportunities and working closely with stakeholders to promote Sydney Trains through external channels

  • Providing a timely response to media enquiries and filming requests, including after hours as part of an on-call roster

This role is a 12 month fixed term appointment which may become permanent if business requirements change.

There is one direct report to this position.

About you

We are looking for a proactive and highly efficient communications professional with substantial experience in the development of proactive media strategies and events.

You will have demonstrated experience identifying story opportunities and translating these into positive media coverage for a range of media channels.

You have strong written communication skills, with the ability to write accurately and concisely, while meeting tight deadlines. A track record of building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and coordinating media events will be essential to your success.

Experience working with TV crews and an understanding of production requirements would also be highly regarded.

Salary and benefits

The salary for this position is RC Grade 7 ($139,374 - $153,345) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
